Figment 2: Creed Valley is launching February 2023

Figment 2: Creed Valley, a sequel to the hit indie puzzler set inside the human mind, has officially announced that it will launch sometime in February 2023. The game will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 4 or 5 at launch. Here’s the announcement from developer and publisher Bedtime Digital Games:

The original Figment continues to maintain very strong reviews, since its launch in 2017. Given its success, it’s both surprising and disappointing that fans have had to wait so long. But judging by the new trailer, the wait will certainly be worthwhile.

Fortunately, the upcoming sequel will also have decent reach, by supporting so many platforms on day one. This team absolutely deserves a wider audience. The sequel is a continuation of Dusty’s story, focusing on nightmares, which is a clever turn of events that introduces some darker, very compelling imagery.

There is a certain kind of whimsy to the first game, thanks to its variety of music and puzzles, which creates a consistent sense of discovery. The hook of the story might bring Inside Out to mind, but it does elaborate on similar ideas in a distinguishable way.

The trailer for Figment 2 also promises to retain its tremendous wit. While the musical approach to some gameplay might deter some players, you should review the lyrics in the latest trailer.

It discusses repressed problems, climate change, and other stark issues, but presents them with a hilariously forthright musical number. It also hints at some of the edge that the sequel could lean into, if it wanted to. There’s even a self-aware nod to musical gameplay, and breaking the fourth wall is always fun when it’s used appropriately.
