Halo Infinite reveals first look at November’s Forge system

Halo Infinite has released nearly half an hour of in-game footage for the upcoming Forge system, a massive feature that has been sorely missed. The game mode which allows players to create their own maps and games is expected to roll out on November 8th, 2022.

The Halo franchise has seen a tremendously steep decline, and equally severe backlash from the fans. Crucial foundations of the franchise have been missing since day one, and Halo Infinite has received less support or communication compared to previous installments.

343 Industries even reversed their announcement to implement split-screen cooperative gameplay, one of the central features of Halo, betraying families and friends that played together under Bungie’s control. Not everyone can afford two consoles, TVs, and Xbox Gold subscriptions.

Few updates, limited maps, poor battle passes. It all came to a head as calls to fire 343i recently ended up trending on Twitter.

Now, the Forge system has the potential to allow Halo fans some breathing room, and basically fix the game themselves. The Halo community has proven to be one of the most creative and joyful, and now their skills will be opened up to unprecedented levels of freedom.

All of the footage from the first look at Forge is promising, from simple quality of life changes like the undo/redo function, to elaborate terrain control and more. With a larger budget, and more expansive options, it looks like the new generation of players won’t have to rely so much on modding.

With future Forge videos on the horizon, it feels like a step in the right direction. Today’s reveals show a lot more effort compared to other aspects of the game. But there’s a lot more to go, and none of 343’s catch-up feels stable enough for a 10-year game.
