MAPPA reveals Chainsaw Man’s official third trailer and premiere schedule

The Japanese animation studio, MAPPA, recently went live on their Youtube Channel to reveal the third trailer of Chainsaw Man and announce its release this October 2022.

Chainsaw Man was originally Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto, first serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump in December 2018. By August 2022, there were already more than 15 million copies of the Chainsaw Man manga in distribution. Tatsuki Fujimoto’s manga has also been recognized in various awards, including the 66th Shogakukan Manga Award in the shonen category in 2021, as well as the Best Manga award at the Harvey Awards.

Chainsaw Man tells the story of a world in which devils with extraordinary abilities are spawned from human fears and people may enter into contracts with them to use their powers. The protagonist, Denji, is an underprivileged young man who pays off his late father’s debt to the yakuza by working as a Devil Hunter with the assistance of Pochita, a dog Chainsaw Devil. However, the Yakuza, later on, betrays and murders Denji for a deal with the Zombie Devil.

Pochita strikes a deal with Denji to merge with him as a human-chainsaw devil hybrid on the condition that Denji reveals Pochita his dreams. Denji in his chainsaw man form then slaughters the yakuza as revenge. Afterward, a team of government Devil Hunters, headed by Makima, contacted Denji and convinced him to join their ranks. Denji accepts the offer and is partnered with the Blood Fiend Power and the self-destructive Devil Hunter Aki Hayakawa. Makima promises Denji a favor if he kills the Gun Devil, the perpetrator of the greatest massacre in human history.

Overall, Chainsaw Man was well-received by both shonen manga fans and its critics. The manga series has been praised for its fascinating storyline and unique set of characters. Fans have also been particularly drawn to the horrific moments and fight scenes. As a result of the popularity of the original manga series, the animation studio MAPPA has decided to adapt Chainsaw Man into an anime version, which they revealed publicly on December 14, 2020.
