Minecraft Legends showcases new and classic mobs

Blackbird Interactive’s game team introduces the mobs of the upcoming Minecraft Legends!

Minecraft Legends is an upcoming spin-off of Minecraft, featuring real-time action strategy gameplay. It is developed by Mojang Studios and Blackbird Interactive and published by Xbox Game Studios. Minecraft Legends started development in 2018. The game was unveiled on June 12, 2022, at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase. In the first half of 2023, it will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows.

The story of Minecraft Legends occurs in the Minecraft world during an invasion of Nether piglins. The corruption of the Nether spreads over the Overworld. A great hero raises a flag to preserve the Overworld and rallies Overworld creatures to defend their home.

In a new Minecraft preview video, the dev team gives a closer look at the mobs of Legends. It describes the distinction between the mobs of Legends and those of vanilla Minecraft. Check out the Minecraft Legends: Classic Mobs and New Friends, courtesy of Minecraft’s official Youtube channel:

According to the Minecraft preview video, the mobs in Legends will still be very recognizable as they have that same look and feel but with a little bit of a twist. One difference players will notice is that mobs are not hostile. In the game, the hero befriends them and they become allies.

Minecraft Legends is designed as a utopia. As such, players have a different interaction with mobs such as the Creeper and Skeletons than they would in the original Minecraft. Zombies are cuter, with larger eyes, and a more desirable appearance, and have hats as they burn in the daytime.

Meanwhile, while all other beings of the Overworld coexist with harmony, the Piglins from the Nether found their way to cross over to devour and take everything that is not theirs. There are a million of these Piglins and they die quickly. Nonetheless, they are designed as little creatures who provide a great deal of comic relief due to their size and the disproportionately enormous weapons they carry.

Additionally, the team has developed new ranged units. These ranged units, known as Golems, serve as turrets. These units will also have water-based powers that heal allies or the hero if they are in their vicinity. While the skeleton is also a ranged unit, players will discover employing trial and error to determine when to use a Golems and when to use a Skeleton. The Golems are categorized into different types such as:

  • Plank Golems are known for being cheerful and rambunctious,
  • Cobblestone Golems are melee units that are slow and steady.
  • Grindstone Golems are disruptors that will come in and push back any opposing units to provide a place for the ranged units to come in and assist.
  • Mossy Golems serve as support units.

Although Minecraft Legends offers features that differ from the original Minecraft, it strives to make both new and veteran players enjoy and feel as if they are not missing out on anything.
