MultiVersus leak teases potential Watchmen crossover

According to a brand-new leak, MultiVersus could be adding one or more characters from Watchmen, Zack Snyder’s film based on the deeply disturbing yet beloved graphic novel from Alan Moore.

Frequent MultiVersus leaker @InTheShadeMV found an unreleased ringout called “Watchmen Explosion”. In a tweet discussing the leak, they note that since none of the current fighters are connected to the film, it’s likely that an original fighter could be added:

The image accompanying the leak shows off the main characters of the story, which involves superheroes in an alternate version of our timeline that are brought together by murder and conspiracy. Those main characters include Rorschach, Nite Owl, Doctor Manhattan, the Comedian, Ozymandias, and Silk Spectre.

Any of those characters are a potential character, which is quite a grim addition for the game, despite the roster including nods to Game of Thrones.

However, the 2009 film adaptation and its fidelity were considered mostly successful by fans, despite some of the director’s divisive flourishes. Either way, the performance from Jackie Earle Haley made a big impression.

Of course, few of the characters (if any) would be appealing to actually play, since the story is so cynical and gritty. As for practical mechanics, the only one with any actual superpowers is Doctor Manhattan.

Further, these characters were meditations on existing hero archetypes or characters, so much of the combat would probably end up using familiar gameplay.

Ultimately, this is a somewhat odd choice, given the vast library of Warner Brothers IP. But the recent appearance at EVO 2022 was pretty successful, despite the recent delay of season 1 and Morty. MultiVersus can only grow, and it’ll be interesting to see where the devs draw their lines.
