One Piece Manga broke a new Guinness World Record after publishing over 500 million copies

One of the leading Japanese Shonen manga series, One Piece, sets a new Guinness World Record in honor of its publication of over 500 million copies worldwide.

One Piece is a Shonen manga written and illustrated by renowned Japanese mangaka, Eichiro Oda. The manga series has been publishing its chapters and volumes since July 1997, reaching over 1000 chapters in 2022. After three years since its first manga publication, Toei Animation adapted the One Piece manga into an anime television series that started airing in Japan on October 20, 1999. Since then, One Piece has broadcast more than 1,000 episodes and has been distributed in a number of nations throughout the globe. As a result of One Piece’s extensive history as well as its ever-increasing popularity in Japan and throughout the rest of the world, the One Piece manga and anime were often regarded as being among the greatest Shonen manga and anime.

In June 2015, One Piece first broke a Guinness World Record after Eichiro Oda remained as its main author while the manga series surpassed 320,866,000 copies worldwide. Specifically, One Piece’s first Guinness World Record recognizes it for “The most copies published for the same comic book series by a single author.”

Recently, Shueisha made the announcement that the number of copies of One Piece that are in circulation has reached 516,566,000 copies. As such, the Guinness World Record has officially updated One Piece’s previous world record after surpassing 500 million copies worldwide. Meanwhile, the new One Piece Guinness World Record may have been its last update since it was previously revealed that the manga series is approaching its final saga, which will see the Wano Country arc serve as the series finale. In order to prepare for the manga’s “final saga,” Eichiro Oda went on hiatus on June 27 for a period of one month, and he eventually returned on July 25.
