Pentiment will launch with 7 different languages on November 15th

Pentiment is an upcoming adventure video game by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Xbox Game Studios. It is scheduled for release on November 15, 2022, for Windows via Steam, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S platforms.

The new Obsidian game is a historical mystery narrative-driven game that focuses on character development, heavily stylized art, and choice-driven storytelling in early 16th century Germany. The visual style of Pentiment is a fusion of late medieval woodcuts, early prints, and manuscripts from the late medieval period, all of which are from the transitional period between late medieval and early modern art.

In Pentiment, players will take on the character of the journeyman artist Andreas Maler, a clever illustrator who becomes embroiled in a series of murders that take place at Kiersau Abbey. Each choice that this character takes has long-lasting repercussions and gradually leads him closer to the core of an underlying conspiracy, yet he is the only one who possesses the wits and the desire to expose the murderers.

More specifically, the player will look into the murder of a notable figure, for whom Andreas’s close friend has been suspected of being responsible. The events of the narrative take place over the course of 25 years, but the real killer is never canonically revealed. Instead, the player is expected to accuse a specific person depending on either who they believe to be responsible for the crime or who they feel most justly warrants the penalty. Along with the main murder plot, there are also other crimes and conspiracies that will carry on.

Microsoft’s 2018 acquisition of Obsidian give has brought an improvement to Pentiment’s accessibility and localization support. These improvements particularly include a mode with typefaces that are easier to read, features such as text-to-speech, and robust translations for players who are not native English speakers in a game with a lot of written content. In a recent announcement, Obsidian revealed that Pentiment will launch with 7 different languages to play in, including German, English, Castilian Spanish, French, Italian, Polish, and Brazilian Portuguese. More languages will also be available post-launch. Pentiment is now available for pre-order on Xbox and Steam!
