PlayStation Plus announces first Game Catalog for July 2022

The new PlayStation Plus service has officially revealed its first lineup of titles that will be available on July 19th, 2022. This includes the day-one launch of Stray, a strategy that continues to make competitors like the Xbox Game Pass a successful service.

Here’s PlayStation’s official tweet, which also mentions a Final Fantasy VII remake and Marvel’s Avengers:

The highlight of the announcement is clearly Stray, which not only has a great premise, but some very promising gameplay footage.

Stray was first revealed back in June 2020 for PlayStation’s “Future of Gaming” event, and fans had to wait another year to get a gameplay walkthrough. You can review nearly five minutes of footage on PlayStation’s official YouTube channel here:

The graphics look absolutely incredible, as players assume the role of a lost cat who must explore a terrifying cybercity to return home.

Next up is Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, an expansion of the remake that’s enhanced for the PS5. Aside from improved visuals, it’ll also offer up a new story, where Wutai ninja Yuffie Kisaragi infiltrates Midgar. PS4 users will still have access to the original remake.

The announcement goes on to reveal that Marvel’s Avengers will be available. The AAA title was held up to enormous expectations, and mostly disappointed fans as a result.

It has fun button mashing appeal, but lacks content, especially on the multiplayer side. Which is odd, given that the point of the Avengers is to team up and defeat evil together.

Sadly, many of the new characters are practically recolors of existing ones, with mechanics that are hilariously similar. This has been a real thorn in the side of Mighty Thor fans who recently watched Thor: Love and Thunder.

It’s a shame Mighty Thor didn’t have the ability to break up Mjolnir into tiny pieces, just like the movie. After all, Hawkeye already has a very similar mechanic.

Now, some rumors are suggesting that Bucky Barnes will be the next character, as seen here:

The result could surely be a Captain America clone, but hopefully the devs would establish a more unique kit for the Winter Soldier.

Lastly, PlayStation Plus will offer a host of Assassin’s Creed content such as Unity, Black Flag and more. Fans can also get two Saint’s Row titles, Ice Age: Scrat’s Nutty Adventure, Jumanji The Video Game, Paw Patrol on a Roll! and ReadySet Heroes.

Premium members will only get two extra titles, No Heroes Allowed! and LocoRoco Midnight Carnival, which is kind of a letdown.
