Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s Paldea region will officially get three new TCG collections, based on the brand-new starter Pokémon, launching on January 6th, 2023. Each collection will include special foil cards, four booster packs and more. For a quick look at the packaging, here’s the announcement from Pokémon TCG’s feed:
The oversized cards are definitely fun for collectors, and the lengthy process of collecting has always been a focal point of the franchise. Oversized cards may not be usable, but it adds the incentive of personality.
Besides, Koraidon and Miraidon are perfectly suited for an oversized treatment, given their role in the upcoming games. They’re legendary vehicles and Transformers, more or less.
Sadly, more Pokémon aren’t revealed by the packaging released today. It does have vibrant look though, balancing a streamlined design with bold colors. You can see the collectible pin that accompanies each set, in the top right corner, but it’s also unfortunate that the actual card abilities remain hidden too.
It’s a bit strange, since trailers for Violet and Scarlet have already revealed so much. And seeing a glimpse of any card from the set would be a great selling point. Of course, showing the signature Pokémon would also reveal their hotly anticipated evolutions too, so it’s understandable.
The price tag hasn’t been confirmed just yet, but the contents will surely drive up the cost. Four booster packs are costly enough on their own, and there’s even a code card thrown in for Pokémon TCG Online or Live. Right now, most Elite Trainer boxes are going for around $35 USD, so collectible sets like this can at least be expected to surpass that.
