Pokémon Unite will officially celebrate its first birthday by adding a new update with new Pokémon, licenses, Holowear, a new quick battle and more. The event is scheduled to launch on Thursday, July 21, 2022.
Here’s the full announcement from Pokémon Unite’s feed, which includes a lengthy trailer that recaps the history and future of the game:
Pokémon Unite smartly capitalized on the giant success of the MOBA genre that keeps League of Legends one of the most popular games in the industry. But the Pokémon flavor is irresistible, and the existing battle mechanics were a perfect fit.
While Pokémon Unite hasn’t revolutionized anything over the last year, despite its many updates and features, it’s definitely exceptional and fresh.
Pokémon Unite Anniversary details
Firstly, players can expect to see Glaceon, Buzzwole and Tyranitar enter the game. Each Pokémon will roll out at different dates, respectively July 21st, August 3rd and August 15th.
At this time, it’s unclear what each of their abilities and roles are going to be. But it’s easy to surmise the possibilities based on existing Pokémon, and Glaceon’s icy attacks are sure to bring some kind of freezing function.
Buzzwole and Tyranitar are probably just tanks, which would continue to frustrate fans that are hoping to see more speedsters.
The new quick battle mode is “Boss Rush”, where players simply band together to defeat a giant boss. When your squad earns higher scores, your rewards improve too. Although the mechanics don’t sound very interesting, basically expanding on the Zapdos concept, the boss potential is definitely intriguing.
Logging into Pokémon UNITE on five different days between July 21st and October 12th will reward players with bundles of Unite licenses and Holowear. These will feature Pikachu, Lucario, Blastoise, Snorlax and Sylveon.
Players will also get to collect frosting in the Anniversary Cake Challenge after July 21st. You can read more about the entire Pokémon franchise by following our news section!
