Everyone’s favorite sci-fi duo has been confirmed to be coming back to screens starting at the end of this summer. Many fans have been eager to find any content they can about the next season of Rick and Morty after last season left off on such a big cliffhanger. Now, the first shred of news has been revealed with the announcement that the show will be returning on Sept. 4.
According to the official Rick and Morty Twitter account, the alcoholic grandpa and his cautions grandson are going to be coming back to our screens within a little over a month. The pic shared with the tweet shows Rick and Morty flexing their new six-pack abs and looking self-assured. “Ripped and ready,” reads the caption posted with the picture.
This announcement comes days after The Vindicators 2 was released on YouTube, showcasing the characters from a previous season’s Avengers-themed episode. In this prequel, the characters are living out their lives and showing their talents before Rick and Morty show up and “help” them save the day. As it turns out, the team wasn’t as innocent as they seemed when the episode first aired.
At the end of Rick and Morty season five, the titular characters were trapped on the now-destroyed Citadel, where Evil Morty ground up hundreds, if not thousands, of Rick and Mortys to power up his ship and a golden portal gun. Our Rick and Morty were trapped on the Mortyburg part of the Citadel, which was broken off, and barely escaped the chaos happening at the Citadel.
As a black hole opened up, it was the teamwork between Rick and Morty that saved them and all the other Mortys on the ship. This is the second time that Rick and Morty have ended a season with a big cliffhanger, the first time being when Rick was sent to space prison at the end of season two.
