SEGA trailer reveals Full Game List coming to Genesis Mini 2

SEGA has just released a brand-new trailer showcasing all of the games that will be available on the Genesis Mini 2, which is currently scheduled to roll out on October 27th, 2022 for North America. European pre-orders will become available sometime in September for the Mega Drive Mini 2, with no exact release date confirmed.

The full trailer lasts nearly seven minutes, offering just enough screen time for each classic. You can watch the full trailer on SEGA’s YouTube channel here:

The Sega Genesis Mini, which is called the Mega Drive Mini outside NA, first released back in September of 2019. So, it’s been a while since fans were treated to some 16-bit ports, and the original console only offered 42 games.

These titles, and the Sega Genesis experience, have definitely earned the right to be preserved this way. It’s a large piece of gaming history, and many devs in the industry continue to deliberately recreate the old school look and sounds, such as the recent announcement of Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider.

Xbox’s backwards compatibility, the Nintendo Switch Online service, and now PS Plus have all smartly capitalized from indulging a craving for nostalgia. As such, it makes sense for SEGA to follow suit, and they have a terrific library to pull from.

Fans will definitely be satisfied with some of the titles included in the trailer, although you can’t please everyone. It can be very difficult to track down proper versions of these games, even if you’re willing to seek out emulators. The Revenge of Shinobi was an instant classic, and playing on a computer just isn’t the same.

However, the highlight of the announcement is definitely the inclusion of CD games, and fans are already clamoring for more, like Earthworm Jim CD. Just bear in mind that the SEGA Genesis Mini 2 will only provide one controller.
