Square Enix submits trademark applications for ‘SaGa Emerald Beyond’ and ‘Emberstoria’

Trademark applications for “SaGa Emerald Beyond” and “Emberstoria” has been submitted by Square Enix Japan.

Following the appearance of certain new Japanese files related to Square Enix, rumors have begun to circulate about upcoming projects from the publisher that may have been hinted at by the documents. The trademarks are for two names – “SaGa Emerald Beyond” and “Emberstoria.” On October 13th, the two trademark applications were submitted in Japan, and early this week, the applications began to appear on the official portal for Japanese trademarks.

RPG fans may easily be familiar with SaGa Emerald Beyond as the name seems to be the subtitle for a new installment in the SaGa series. The video game franchise SaGa is a science fantasy open-world role-playing game that originated in 1989 by Akitoshi Kawazu. Since then, it has been ported to a variety of gaming consoles and systems, ranging from the Super Nintendo Entertainment System to the PlayStation 2. The series is famous for the focus it places on the free-roaming exploration of vast worlds, non-linear storylines with branching paths, and unique gameplay.

In the meanwhile, the Emberstoria trademark does not have any evident relation to any existing franchise, yet, the name does seem like it may be used for a project developed by Square Enix. This is a continuation of a trademark application that was previously submitted for “Emberstoria Overwrite,” last April this year as well as the registration of a few domain names revolving around the Emberstoria title.

In any case, it seems likely that Square Enix will reveal more about these projects soon. In light of previous applications, the Square Enix trademark may be depended upon to a significant extent. The term “Final Bar Line” was the last trademark that Square Enix filed to register as their own. As it turns out, “Final Bar Line” was the name of the most recent installment in the Theatrhythm series.
