Sword and Fairy: Together Forever reveals new gameplay overview

Sword and Fairy: Together Forever continues one of the longest-running RPGs in the industry, and its latest gameplay overview reveals the basics with new footage. The game is scheduled to release on August 4th, for PlayStation 4 and 5.

You can watch nearly five minutes of gameplay on eastasiasoft’s official YouTube channel here:

Indie publisher and developer EastAsiaSoft is based in Hong Kong, and they also worked on Sword & Fairy 6. However, the new overview makes it clear that the franchise is trying to invite newer players to join in, with more accessible mechanics and a narrative that isn’t weighed down by decades of lore.

Drawing from ancient Chinese mythology, Sword and Fairy: Together Forever is explained to be a standalone story. Players must attempt to restore peace to a village during a time of conflict between Deities, Demons and Human clans.

There will be an ensemble cast, a wide variety of landscapes to explore, including seas and cities alike. Players will be rewarded for exploration, which includes real-time combat against overworld enemies, a new mechanic for the series. This allows players to choose their battles, and even use stealth.

The overview also reveals that combat is swift, though perfect timing will trigger slow-motion, and quick-time events can sometimes help players deal more damage.

Each party member has their own abilities, but you can also add an “element” to organize your comp as needed. The ability to switch characters during battle invites more strategy than usual. There will even be a card battle mini game, which is available through challenging NPCs.

Lastly, the overview shows how players can join and raise spirit animals. They can be fed, petted and more to improve their abilities and unlock new secrets.
