One of the largest eSports teams in the industry, Team Liquid, finally had its big shakeup today as they said goodbye to Connor “Sliggy” Blomfield and welcomed the new coach Emil “eMIL” Sandgren.
Sliggy made the decision to step down from the team in May 2022 due to a “difference in vision” for Team Liquid, though he remained a part of the organization, as seen in this thread:
Today, Team Liquid gave Sliggy an official goodbye, and it seems like the change was left on good terms. Team Liquid noted Sliggy’s massive role in the history of the team, including some familiar pictures from iconic moments of the group, and Sliggy quickly thanked them:
Fortunately, fans of Team Liquid got a swift update on the new coach. On Twitter, TL welcomed “eMIL”, a successful coach from Malmö, a coastal city in Sweden.
eMIL is best known for his Overwatch career, and coaching the British org Guild X, who announced eMIL’s departure just last week. He’s actually twins with another coach, Erik “d00mbr0s” Sandgren, and both of them have been celebrated for their skills in various titles.
The future of Team Liquid’s Valorant team still looks bright, and the roster update was explained in a thorough YouTube video on the team’s official channel. You can meet eMIL and the full team in the full video here:
It turns out that Team Liquid has been working with eMIL for a month now. The current roster praised eMIL’s efforts, including those outside the game, which will further improve their gameplay.
eMIL jokingly describes himself as a “short king” compared to the tall players on the team, which explains the announcement tweet. But it’s also clear that eMIL has a strong plan, and it’ll be interesting to see how that works out.
