The Sims announces new title “Project Rene” for Summit Stream

The Sims, one of the longest-lasting and popular simulation titles in the genre, has officially named its upcoming game “Project Rene”. The working title is meant to emphasize renewal, and as such, the Summit Stream even revealed small peeks at new gameplay far ahead of launch.

You can review today’s full “Behind the Sims” Summit Stream event on The Sims’ YouTube channel here:

Naturally, the devs couldn’t explain much just yet, but it’s clear that they actually intend to work with fans during their development process. They explain that over the next “couple of years”, they’ll share a lot of updates and behind-the-scenes details. But more importantly, they are planning on inviting select groups to gain early access to the game’s software.

This is a unique approach for The Sims, and it’ll be interesting to see if they’re willing to accept direct feedback and ideas from players.

The stream carefully notes that Project Rene will remain true to the franchise, while evolving to meet a new generation of players, including improved customization and deeper storytelling.

The team working on Project Rene is still “growing”, and the development process is expected to unfold “over the next few years”.

The bits of gameplay from Project Rene focus on improved decorating tools, including a glimpse at the library of furniture and household items that will be available. The current graphics are already pretty stunning, given how early in development they are.

However, the stream also mentions the ability to create in-game with friends, as well as playing the game across different supported devices at the same time. Both are simple yet crucial additions to the series. The latter seems to suggest cross-play and cross-progression, which would allow players to use multiple screens while decorating in real-time.

If you’re new to the franchise, The Sims 4 has just gone free-to-play as of today. You can read more about The Sims, Project Rene, and other hit simulation games by checking out our news section!
