Wild Hearts reveal trailer teases giant monster hunting

Wild Hearts has officially released its first gameplay footage with a new reveal trailer, showing off a variety of lush environments and massive beasts to hunt. The trailer also concluded with a launch date announcement for February 17th, 2023. You can watch the full trailer on Wild Hearts’ YouTube channel here:

It is now absolutely clear that Wild Hearts intends to directly compete with the classic Monster Hunter franchise. The trailer establishes that “you need only hunt”, which is a bold move that relies solely on the artistic approach rather than mixing up the formula.

Players can invent new upgrades for their weapons, and they’ll also have access to various traps or equipment to aid them on their hunts. In fact, there are also quite a few shots of endemic life, which may not necessarily be hunted. Wild Hearts actually flaunts its similarity to Monster Hunter, counting on the gorgeous cultural influences of Feudal Japan.

The creature design does look solid, and the devs already have experience with various hunting mechanics thanks to the beloved Toukiden series. Omega Force has already proven their ability, and it’s clear that partnering with EA has resulted in some very slick visuals.

Although fans were quick to notice all of Wild Hearts’ similarities, many were actually pleased to have a different franchise to invest in. After all, Monster Hunter practically has a monopoly on the genre, finding enormous success with every Sunbreak update. But EA has a troublesome reputation, so cautious optimism is justified.

Hopefully, Wild Hearts will be more than a simple re-skin of that franchise and ultimately distinguish itself mechanically too. The trailer does show off some creative gear, such as the spinning umbrella, which elaborates on Japanese inspirations in a clever way.
