Xbox streaming device “Keystone” apparently teased

Phil Spencer, the current head of the Xbox brand, appears to have teased an image of the upcoming Xbox streaming stick or console, codenamed “Keystone”. Something that likely resembles the device showed up in a Fallout anniversary celebration image from Spencer’s Twitter feed, right on his top shelf:

Rumors about the Keystone device circulated for ages before Microsoft officially confirmed it back in May 2022. So, Microsoft hasn’t been guarded about the existence of the Keystone, and it seems very probable that Spencer knew exactly what they were doing, leaving such a unique device in clear view of the image.

Nothing has been officially confirmed, but the device is unusually small, even compared to the Xbox Series S console. So, it is more likely to be an original device. Also, the image accompanies a title celebration, which would be a fair occasion to tease something like this.

The Keystone is expected to provide a more affordable and mobile alternative for fans to exclusively access Xbox Cloud Gaming.

A streaming stick would be an effective way to play on the go without having to drag consoles around, even if the Series S is already smaller. Keystone is also expected to be even more inexpensive, which would make it one of the most accessible platforms for such an extensive library of titles and more.

The Keystone would likely operate similarly to Google Stadia, even though that service recently announced a full shutdown, expected in January 2023. However, Xbox has clear advantages by comparison, with a built-in fanbase, the Xbox Game Pass subscription service, and so forth.

The Keystone is a necessary evolution of Xbox Cloud Gaming to compete with new arrivals like the Steam Deck, which is now available without a reservation, and delivers an all-purpose experience with nearly unprecedented support and customer care.
